Hemingway, the master of brevity, once wrote a story six words long. It’s said that he said it was his best work. I’m not sure about that, but it’s a pretty cool idea. Wired challenged a bunch of sweet authors to try their hand. The results are pretty interesting. Some of ‘em are just great! Check em out here.
Here’s some of my favorites:
Computer, did we bring batteries? Computer?
- Eileen Gunn
It’s behind you! Hurry before it
- Rockne S. O’Bannon
The baby’s blood type? Human, mostly.
- Orson Scott Card
Bang postponed. Not Big enough. Reboot.
- David Brin
Will this do (lazy writer asked)?
- Ken MacLeod
He read his obituary with confusion.
- Steven Meretzky
Leia: “Baby’s yours.” Luke: “Bad news…”
- Steven Meretzky
Dorothy: “F–k it, I’ll stay here.”
- Steven Meretzky
